Orphans

You reconsider your position
On the mountain top

The orphans’ mountain
Where the birds fly north

To invisible parents
And your brothers and sisters

Have become the south wind
In a horror movie

What can I do to make you
Hear the coyotes

In a land of near misses
Where the red-shouldered hawks

Let their melancholy cries
Echo in the children’s valley below

Predictions

The horses will enter the field
As if they were invited

I too am a guest
In a country where soon

There will be no bells

And what the grazing horses hear
Will travel

From the island of forecasts
Where the daughters

Rain on the field below
And cover the horses

With their wet predictions
