Long Night

Neca Stoller

Near the lingering candle
melting into itself,
a flowered vase
brighter than its flowers.
A restless night, keeping
company with the moon,
lighting one cigarette
with another cigarette, when
coming through the mist,
fading the red camellias,
a car's headlights--
Then your whistle.
